That quote reminded me of "Atomic Habits". A great read for anyone struggling with adapting and sticking to new habits. Sadly I can't eat watermelon :( :( :(

I probably should "puree" things more. All my kids know I "hide" extra veggies but since they are older I'm not so good at the hide and seek food game. Lol. That said my adult children now have an awareness and miss their mom's "healthier" cooking. It's paid off for them and even my youngest... It's the big kid who drives me crazy. And he said if I complain he won't cook but he's retired and I'm still working so I try to be thankful to him for making the meal and just quietly cut up extra veggies for my plate. Being under the weather I had no energy to do that though... Had to force myself a few times.

Well that makes me feel better! Looking at your family you'd think Peter in totally on same page as you. Ya just never know!

My biggest challenge right now is recovering from Covid and a husband who believes that the tomato sauce in spaghetti sauce or on top of pizza counts as enough veg. He's doing most of the cooking for dinners lately so I'm doing my best to ensure breakfast and lunch are packed full and then will add a salad or cut up veggies for my dinner as a "hint hint" to him about the veggies. ;)

It is VERY frustrating though because I've been working on him for YEARS!!!! Eva (my 15 year old) has learned and will plate half veggies leaving next to none for her dad. When he does cook veggies we have to steam up extra because he thinks a serving is what "he" would eat. Since I haven't been feeling well (no energy) I have just tried to be grateful for the meal he's prepared and too lazy to make anything additional. And if I'm brutally honest - it feels like a good excuse right now to just eat poorly for a little while.

Who else struggles when spouses or other members in their family that will take lead on meals? Any tips???

Photo - hubby's idea of a balanced plate. LOL

I have to chuckle about the "bake your own treats" and that working for it makes you enjoy it more. We have bakers in this house that LOVE to bake so it's a labour of love and hence WAY too easy to over indulge. Love the 1/2 sugar rule. I've been doing that forever (learned it from my Dad when I was young) but Eva isn't convinced yet.... she always rolls her eyes at me. haha

I'm with you on sardines, but Eva and Dave LOVE them.

OMG... mind blown. So simple but I never thought to run frozen peas under water for a salad. Love that. I always have those on hand so something new I can do. Thanks!

I've been making homemade fries like you (but using a herb and garlic seasoning without salt) for about 20 years and my kids have loved them from when they were wee. In case this is a new tip for someone new - an awesome way to do the same with sweet potato is fajita seasoning! SOOOO good.
